A lot of developments have sprouted in recent years in the sleepy town of Kampar, 45 mins drive from Ipoh, in anticipation of the new Universiti Tuanku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) campus. The buildings in the campus have just been completed, ready for its first intake of students.

1. Grand Kampar Hotel, the first decent hotel in Kampar, located in Bandar Baru Kampar, the new township not far from UTAR.

3. Grand entrance with sleek steel-and-glass canopy

4. Three storey shophouse development next to the hotel. It is common for the upper floors of shophouses to be used as flats.

4. UTAR new campus built next to a huge mining pond, in a serene and tranquil setting. The buildings are simple, unpretentious and blends into the landscape. Probably the university with the best fengshui in Malaysia.

8. Main Entrance. Looks like they didn't have much funds left for the entrance signs after putting up the buildings!

Many thanks for the eye opening photos of Kampar UTAR and Kampar Grand Hotel, and not forgetting the 'clay pot rice'......taste good in your opinion?

Does that mean Ipohans in the future will have a uni option closer to home?

Last year, we passed tho' Kampar. Didn't know it's that impressive.

This option would mean a lot to the non-Bumi's especially the Chinese, since the public uni's are dominated by bumis and the entry selection are all race-based. Also a more affordable option for further education for Perakians closer to home.

Are the lectures in English, Malay or Chinese? If it is private, what is the annual tuition plus housing cost for a student attending uni there? Just curious.

As far as I know, English is the language being used in class but majority of the students over there converse in Mandarin among themselves.

For a 1-year foundation course, it is RM5.8k and for a 3-year accountancy degree, it is about RM28k. A friend just commented that it's no longer that cheap, but still cheaper than a lot of the other private institutions. I've no idea how much the cost of living would be but presumably it wouldn't be that expensive since it's Kampar and not KL.
